University events

Having delivered solely student-facing events for the last few years, we are now looking to offer a range of student-friendly activities at universities across the country:

• Student presentations, featuring CII and PFS members
• Careers fairs, supported by CII and PFS members
• Discover Fortunes events to first year Accounting and Finance students (or similar), supported by PFS members
• Networking events, through our link with the Bright Futures society. This brings together students from a range of degrees who are interested in working in business

We now have confirmed dates for many university events this year. Please let me know if you would like to support this activity. We are looking for young graduates who, ideally, also hold ACII or Chartered status.

Apprenticeships

So far this year there have been more than 600 Apprenticeship starts who are taking CII units or qualifications. The pathways that contain our IF1 unit and Certificate in Insurance qualification are the most popular, although there is also interest in the ALMI pathway.

Please note that SMEs looking to recruit an Apprentice for the first time may be eligible for a £1.5k incentive payment per Apprentice, up to a maximum of £4.5k.

If you would like to know more about offering an Apprenticeship in your company, you can also email discover@cii.co.uk with any questions you may have.

Apprenticeship pathways will continue to be a key aspect of our promotion in to schools and colleges, and we expect to see 1000 Apprentices taking a CII unit/qualification by the end of the year.

Internships

We have seen more than 100 summer placements/internships made available this year, which is very much in the spirit of social mobility and inclusion. The CII itself recently took on an intern for a month, giving them experience of working the marketing department, with projects connected with competitor analysis and social media research. They also had the pleasure of visiting Lloyd’s of London and attending a client meeting.

If you offer internships, or would like to offer internships and have questions based on the guide, please email discover@cii.co.uk
