At the CII’s AGM on 23 July 2014, the new funding model for local institutes was approved. As previously advised, this now links funding each institute receives annually from the CII to their annual performance score.
As in previous years institutes may also apply for a secondary grant, a Special Grant to cover planned exceptional expenditure.
These are awarded on a case-by-case basis, subject to Special Grant Committee review and CII Board approval, and provided as a one-off payment.
As stated Special Grants are only awarded for exceptional expenditure e.g. meeting the reasonable costs of an unsupported President. Please note that Special Grants will not be awarded to cover institute staff and office costs.
Before making a Special Grant application, local institutes should firstly assess the level of accumulated reserves to ensure these are not being maintained at excessive levels. Where these exceed 12 months reserves, these need to be used before the award of a special grant.
To find out more about special grants please see the guidance notes. To apply for a special grant, local institutes need to submit a written application, including both Special Grant Applications Forms: A and B. The latter will include a full breakdown of your local institute’s financial accounts.
All applications need to be submitted to the CII by Tuesday 30 September 2014 via specialgrants@cii.co.uk for review and recommendation by the Grants Working Committee. Final decisions will be made by the CII Board in November.
Confirmation of the amount to be paid will be communicated to all institutes in December 2014.
