Annual Dinners: Message from Grant Scott, Vice President Local Institutes

With the Annual Dinner season underway, I have on many an occasion, been asked about etiquette, protocol and the role of a toast master at Annual Dinners. As many of you know I have attended quite a few Dinners over the years, and I would say that what makes for a good dinner is a good toast master!

I’ve worked with many toast masters, including Matt Biggin whom some of you may know, and we’ve put together this aide memoire of what a toast master is: What he/she does: And how a toast master can ensure that a dinner is successful without there being too much pressure on both the President and the Dinner Secretary. It is written from his point of view and does best describe the role at Annual Dinners.

I want to see all Annual Dinners being a success and as stress less as possible for all those involved in arranging probably the most important event of the year. Hopefully this will be of use to you all in organising a very successful Annual Dinner.
