The CII would again like to express its thanks to the local institute network for assisting us over the years in delivering written examinations to our learners and members. This process has now been taken in-house to allow our network of institutes to focus on the development of the local membership proposition.
Changes to the way we will be delivering our examinations
Our contract with City and Guilds, who have historically delivered our multiple-choice question examinations (MCQ), is due to end in December 2020. The CII decided to look at alternative providers who could offer us more choice on how we are able to deliver our examinations and assessments across the UK and internationally.
Online multiple-choice examinations
Following a tender process, we have changed our digital assessment provider to an organisation called PSI. PSI will allow the CII to further improve the examination experience using cutting-edge technology which will give candidates greater flexibility in terms of when, where, and how they sit their examination; either by Remote Invigilation (RI) or at one of the many PSI centres globally.
There will be no additional charge to candidates for choosing to sit an MCQ exam via Remote Invigilation (RI) and candidates can make as many free of charge changes (up to 48 hours in advance of the exam date) to their MCQ booking including changing the delivery type.
Written examinations
The improved system will also give the CII the ability to offer our paper-based written exams in an on-screen format from October 2020. These exams will still take place on set dates and candidates will have the option to sit either by RI or a PSI centre.
The new exam booking process
Candidates will no longer select when they want to sit their exam at the point of purchase. Once enrolled they will receive an online exam voucher which is redeemable via MyCII.
Upon redeeming their voucher, they will be re directed to the PSI booking platform to select a date, time, and venue type i.e. RI or a PSI centre.
This information will be transferred back to the CII and recorded on the candidate's record. A booking confirmation email will be sent to the candidate directly from PSI and made available via MyCII.
Results process
Candidates will still be presented with their provisional result on screen at the end of their exam, with results for MCQ examinations then made available to the candidate within 24hrs of sitting the exam via the CII website – within the MyCII section.
Please note the CII will continue to directly email candidates with their results.
If you have any questions about the new exams process, then please contact your Regional Membership Manager.
