CII Professional Map - update

The Chartered Insurance Institute will be launching a Professional Map in 2022 that will act as a competency framework of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for insurance professionals to succeed in the workplace.

The Professional Map forms part of the widespread membership consultation and engagement initiative that the CII is conducting, with a particular focus on achieving even greater recognition of the professionalism of our sector.

It will support firms in driving a culture of professionalism by helping to demonstrate to the regulator a commitment to people development and ensuring the right capabilities are in place at all levels and across all functions.

The framework aims to empower individuals to commit to the highest professional standards, providing them with transparency around the competencies they need to add value and make an impact at each stage of their careers.

We are referring to it as the 'golden thread' because it will enable us to establish common standards in partnership with the profession and wider stakeholders such as regulators, so that we can demonstrate a compelling link between professional conduct and achieving better customer outcomes that lead to improved public trust in insurance.

A suite of tools will also be available for insurance professionals to access. The suite will include a diagnostic tool for firms to identify areas for development, as well as a self-assessment tool for individuals to identify knowledge and skills gaps.
