Network Conference 2026: An Open Letter from Ben Turner

Dear All,

The feedback we have received from attendees of this year’s CII Network Conference has been overwhelmingly positive. We’d like to thank everyone who attended, and your institute for its continued support.

During the event, we were invited to consider some suggestions for actions we could take to help our volunteer members deliver even more effectively, and we committed to respond swiftly.

I am pleased to confirm that:

  • The CII will provide each Local Institute with their own CII email address from July. We will also explore whether central provision of other applications from the Microsoft 365 suite might be beneficial.
  • We will consult all Local Institutes on suggestions from fellow members that the CII should review financial processes and support a more centralised approach to financial management. We will send your institute a survey soon.
  • We will work with members to develop best practice guidance in relation to Local Institute insurance purchasing needs and processes.
  • We are currently gathering feedback from a working group of members on new data protection guidance. This will be released shortly.
  • We will rapidly undertake a review of all Local Institute role profiles and associated training, and consider the introduction of Engagement Officer posts to provide a link with local firms.

We also heard feedback from some volunteers that the CII could make its membership proposition more appealing to those working in adjacent professions, such as finance, actuarial or pricing roles. We have already taken some steps on this front, such as including professionals from a wider array of roles (beyond, broking, claims and underwriting) on our new Professional Communities Advisory Board. More generally, we will explore how we can work with other professional bodies and specialist groups to develop partner events, CPD, or otherwise promote professionalism.

I hope this brief message gives you confidence that we are acting promptly on the feedback we heard. We look forward, as always, to working with you to develop these suggestions and provide additional benefit to all our volunteer members.

Kind regards,

Ben Turner, Executive Director, Member Engagement
