As a Local Institute volunteer, you already make an important contribution to CII members and the wider profession. We're now looking for volunteers who may be interested in using their professional knowledge and experience in another way by getting involved with one of our Specialist Advisor Groups (SAGs).
Our Specialist Advisor Groups bring together practitioners from across Broking, Claims and Underwriting to share professional insight, discuss emerging issues and, importantly, help shape the activity delivered through each of our Professional Communities.
The CII's Professional Communities support members working across Broking, Claims and Underwriting, providing relevant technical and professional insight, CPD and learning opportunities, thought leadership, events and opportunities to connect with others working in their field.
The Specialist Advisor Groups help us ensure that this activity reflects what members actually need.
Through regular, informal and insight-led discussions, SAG members share what they are seeing and experiencing across their areas of practice. They help us understand the issues affecting professionals, identify emerging challenges and opportunities, and consider the topics and support that would be most valuable to members of their community.
Help shape what we provide to members
The ideas and insight generated by the Groups directly help inform the activity of each Professional Community.
This might include identifying:
> topics for CPD webinars and learning;
> ideas for articles and specialist content;
> subjects for podcasts and interviews;
> emerging issues requiring greater professional discussion;
> opportunities for events and roundtables;
> potential research and thought leadership;
> speakers, contributors and subject-matter experts; and
> other ways in which the CII could better support members of the Community.
So, as a Specialist Advisor Group member, you aren't simply attending meetings or advising the CII. You're helping us understand what matters to professionals in your field and shape activity that serves and supports members of your Professional Community.
Could you bring something to the conversation?
We're interested in hearing from Local Institute volunteers who have specialist professional knowledge or experience that they would like to share more widely.
What matters is that you bring relevant professional experience, knowledge of your field, curiosity about what's changing and a willingness to share your perspectives with others.
We're looking to maintain a broad and complementary mix of expertise within each Group. We therefore want to understand the knowledge, experience and perspectives that interested volunteers could bring and how these might complement the expertise already represented.
Getting involved with a Specialist Advisor Group can be a great way to broaden your CII volunteering, connect with practitioners from across the market and use your professional expertise to help shape support for members at a national level.

Further volunteer opportunities
We will also shortly be recruiting new members to join our Professional Communities Advisory Board (PCAB).
The PCAB is a more formal, senior practitioner advisory role, bringing together experienced professionals to provide advice, professional insight and constructive challenge that helps inform the CII's future focus and wider initiatives.
These opportunities will be aimed at individuals with the appropriate level of senior professional experience, and we'll be sharing further information with our volunteer network imminently, including details of the roles and how to apply.
